Order-level and item-level status actions support the handoff through preparation and service. The kitchen works from its own station while the Windows POS remains the source of the restaurant order.

Follow an order through the kitchen

Use a real menu item and its preparation notes to test the flow from the restaurant counter.

1. Create the order in the Windows POS using the Restaurant & Café profile.
2. Send it to the kitchen and check its items and notes on the KDS.
3. Move the ticket or relevant items through preparation and ready status.
4. Complete the handoff and check the resulting status at the POS.

Connect the counter and preparation station

KDS receives its orders over the local network. Keep the Windows host running and the kitchen station connected. A working local network lets those devices communicate independently of whether the shop has an internet connection.

During setup, check the screen size, touch interaction, station filters and order notifications in the conditions your kitchen uses. Include a reconnection check before a busy service.
